1. Battery Discharge / Failure
Why is this the most common? The battery is the "heart" of the car – without it, the engine won't start. Its average lifespan is 4–6 years, but many factors can shorten it.
Characteristic symptoms:
- Slow starting (the engine cranks sluggishly)
- Dashboard lights glow dimly
- Clicking sound when starting, but the engine doesn't turn over
- Electrical consumers (power windows, radio) malfunction intermittently
2. Tire Puncture / Tire Problems
Why is it common? The tire is the only connection between the car and the road. Wear, damage, and incorrect pressure can all lead to a puncture.
Characteristic symptoms:
- Pulling to one side
- Vibration in the steering wheel
- Unusual noise from the wheel area
- Visibly flat or deformed tire
3. Engine Overheating / Cooling System Failure
Why is it dangerous? Overheating can cause irreversible engine damage within minutes (cylinder head warping, gasket failure).
Characteristic symptoms:
- Temperature gauge in the red zone
- Steam/vapor from under the hood
- Sweet smell (coolant leak)
- Power loss
4. Starter Motor and Alternator Faults
Characteristic symptoms:
- Starter motor: clicking when starting, but the engine doesn't crank; or no response at all
- Alternator: battery warning light illuminates while driving; electrical system gradually drains
5. Brake System Problems
Characteristic symptoms:
- Squealing, squeaking, or grinding noise when braking
- Brake pedal feels "soft" or sinks deeper
- Car pulls to one side when braking
- Brake warning light illuminates on the dashboard
6. Fuel Supply Problems
Characteristic symptoms:
- Engine stutters, "chokes"
- Power loss during acceleration
- Engine stalls while driving
- Hard starting
+1: Lighting Faults
Characteristic symptoms:
- Burned-out bulb (headlight, rear light, turn signal)
- Cloudy, frosted headlight lens
- Flashing or rapidly flashing turn signal (sign of a burned-out bulb)
